As I’ve mentioned in the past, my husband loves Mid-Century Modern style (like Madmen), and I like it too but just not enough to style my entire home that way. We compromised and are in the process of creating a slightly Mid-Century living room/office space. We recently found this Mid-Century desk on Craigslist, and it was a steal. I need to touch up the front edge with a little bit of stain, but other than that it’s in great condition. Ignore the ugly filing cabinet – it’s actually empty and we are getting rid of it at some point. Either that or I’ll “bedazzle” it somehow. (Not literally.) As for the chair, we’ve had it for years — it was a cheap IKEA find and it matches perfectly. Not sure if we’ll use it there forever (we have a pair of them and they tend to move around from room to room as our home evolves).
Just to bring you up to speed on the office progress, so far I’ve refinished this dresser, created this Quatrefoil Photo Art, scored this antique fan at a local antique market and refinished this library card catalog cabinet. Next up: painting the walls and adding a lamp/accessories.
Here are a couple of photos of the room from other angles:
And one more of the desk:
The accessories inside the glass vase and jar are leftover hardware from my library cabinet. The “S” is just jute twine wrapped around a cardboard letter.
The one thing not pictured is a wall that has a cabinet/bookcase which was actually the first piece of furniture I ever refinished. I didn’t really know what I was doing back then (way before my blogging days), so it needs to be redone which I’ll get around to at some point and then I will show it to you.
Stay tuned for more office progress soon!
Have you had any fun second-hand finds lately? Do you love Craigslist as much as I do? Have you finished any room makeovers recently? Let me know!
