If you’re wondering why I haven’t been posting as much lately, it’s because life has gotten kind of crazy. First of all, we’ve been traveling an insane amount over the past few weeks. We celebrated my husband’s grandmother’s birthday in Alabama, then headed to my hometown in Indiana for my nephew’s first birthday, then off to Charlotte for Labor Day weekend. We got back just in time to send our sweet little Aiden off to pre-school for the first time ever.
Oh yeah, and this happened. Have you met our sweet Indy?
Here she is in her glory days:
Right before we left for our Labor Day trip to Charlotte, Indy went out in the yard to do her “business.” She came back in limping a few minutes later, so we assumed she must have gotten bitten or stung by something. We had planned on boarding her for the weekend at an animal hospital while we were gone, so we arranged for the vet to check her out during that time. We got a call when we arrived in Charlotte telling us that she had not in fact been stung, but that she had managed to suffer a complete cruciate ligament tear and would need surgery. We debated turning around and coming back home right then, but the vet assured us that she was better off staying there because her injury required cage rest, and she wouldn’t be able to have surgery over the holiday weekend anyway. They gave her some meds and took good care of her while we were away.
When we got back home, we took her to a specialist for a consultation and of course he confirmed what we already knew – that surgery was our only option. So now my sweet Indy dog has to wear the cone of shame while she recovers, and she has to take a long break from chasing critters in the yard. (Sidenote: Indy would like me to mention that she prefers the more regal term, “Elizabethan Collar” rather than “cone of shame.”)
I have a feeling that September isn’t going to be any less busy than August was, so please bear with me while I take care of things at home and attempt to manage my time the best I can. I still have lots of projects planned, but some of them will have to be put on the back burner for a little while until things calm down around here. There may be a few more personal posts/giveaways, etc. than usual for the next few weeks, but there will be lots more “DIY” fun happening in the near future. Thanks for understanding!
Have you had to deal with a pet injury like this? (No fun!) Do you have any fun projects planned for September? Please leave a comment and let me know!
