Project “master bedroom makeover” continues, and I’m happy to report that I’m making serious progress. So far, I’ve refinished the dresser and armoire, I found some thrifted chairs to make over for the sitting area (more on that later), and I’ve created a bedroom office for myself in the “sitting area” portion of the room. You’ve seen our other office (which my husband and I used to share), but now the hubs and I each have our very own “His and Hers” work spaces in the house. Now, we do share from time to time, like if he needs to take a phone call for work, he comes upstairs to my quieter space. And if I want to work downstairs where the kids are playing nearby, then I’ll borrow his desk. But it’s nice to finally have our own spaces, allowing us to work at the same time. Plus he gets to have his “Mad Men modern” space, and I get to have my girly, pretty space.
Here is my blogging/sewing office space that I’ve created in the bedroom. It’s a little plain-jane at the moment, but it’s functional which is the most important thing for now. We’ve had this desk forever (it was a Crate and Barrel purchase years ago), and I was most recently using it as a sewing table. It still functions as such, but when I’m not sewing I clear it off and use it for blogging stuff. I still need to “snazz” it up some, but for now it does the job. P.S. I’ve kept that orchid alive for a whopping 3 weeks now which is some sort of record for me, so kudos to myself. (No, seriously.)
This space is simple and clutter-free (usually), which I love. I need some pretty art on the wall above it, but I want to keep it simple. You can see there are some brackets on the wall below the desk where a shelf used to attach. I think it was used as the previous occupants’ TV stand. We removed the shelf but will leave the brackets (since we are renting and only staying one more year), and they really aren’t that noticeable from most angles anyway. Especially since I usually stash my sewing machine below the desk.
Ooh, and what’s that? A sneak peek of bedroom makeover stuff? Hmm…maybe. 🙂
Here is my husband’s space, which my boys recently converted to a makeshift Lego table while their daddy was out of town.
Things are coming along. Still on my “to do” list for our bedroom:
- New sheets (we are transitioning from the blue/green to a navy color scheme)
- Curtains (I’m thinking of making these. Kelly from View Along the Way read my mind.)
- Nightstands
- Art
- Figure out headboard (Build one? Make over existing one? Not sure yet.)
- Make pillows
We’re getting there, and in the meantime I have a nice, peaceful spot to work on my plans for the room.
What does your ideal home office space look like? What are your work space “must haves”? (Maybe I’ll get some ideas from you!)
