I made some new pillows for my newly reupholstered cane barrel chairs, and I wanted to share a little tip with you. But first, here’s a photo of the pillows. I ordered the fabric from Spoonflower and I love it!
Have you ever spotted really cute fabric that you’d love to make into a pillow, but it’s paper-thin and not the proper weight? Well, you can easily add lining to double-up the weight of the fabric. Want to know how I save money? I use a bed sheet as the lining. Now, I know bed sheets can be pricey, but not when you get a steal of a deal from the thrift store! I recently found a practically-new white king-size bed sheet for under $2.00 at the thrift store. I washed it in hot water with a little bleach (it did come from the thrift store after all), and it served as a perfectly good lining for my throw pillows.
I used the same sheet as a lining for the chevron pillows in my boys’ room.
I just layer it behind my actual fabric when I sew it all together, so each side of the pillow has a layer of fabric with a layer of bedsheet behind it. Ignore the sloppy cutting.
So there’s my little tip: Thrift store bed sheet = throw pillow lining.
