I love crafting and creating new things, but one thing I’ve never really attempted is jewelry making. (Unless you count the 5 million friendship bracelets I made in elementary school.) I decided to attempt to make some earrings using Polyform Premo Clay, and it was way easier than I thought it would be! I ended up making these DIY Glitter Ball Earrings.
The great thing about crafting with clay is that it really is easy, regardless of your crafting experience level. I received these goodies to craft with, and I had a really hard time choosing which color to use.
I went with black for these earrings because I wanted something that could transition from casual to dressy, but I will be making lots of other fun things soon with the other pretty colors! Aside from the Premo Clay and Sculpey bead making kit, other supplies you will need for this project are glitter (I used a charcoal color), glue or decoupage medium, wax paper for your crafting surface, super glue or a hot glue gun, metal baking sheet or pan, small paint brush, and metal earring posts and backs.
The bead making kit was really easy to use, and great for beginners too (like me!). The first thing I did was use the clay cutter to slice a small section of clay to work with.
After kneading it with my hands for a few minutes, I rolled it flat with the clay roller.
I used the circle cutter to cut two circles which I rolled into balls. The circle cutter ensured that each ball would be the same size.
Next, I baked my clay at 275 degrees for about 30 minutes.
After my clay cooled, I painted some decoupage medium onto it with a paint brush and then rolled it around in glitter. (A paper plate works great for this part.)
I let the glitter and glue dry for about 30 minutes, and then I used craft super glue to adhere my earring posts onto each ball. A hot glue gun would work fine too.
I let them dry for about an hour to make sure the glue was totally set, and then they were ready to wear!
I’m already brainstorming all of the other fun jewelry I will make with this clay. For now, I’m excited about my new cute earrings!
