DIY Mason Jar Lid Ornaments

DIY Mason Jar Lid Ornaments

I recently posted a Mason Jar Lid Garland project, and I still have several lids lying around so I thought why not turn them into ornaments? Today I am sharing a fun, easy way to create DIY Mason Jar Lid Ornaments. I also used Mod Podge for this project, which is listed as one of my favorite things in my Holiday Gift Guide.

What you’ll need for this project:

  • Mason Jar Lids
  • Mod Podge
  • Sponge Brush
  • Wrapping paper and/or Sheet Music (I downloaded mine from the Graphics Fairy here and printed it out, but you could also buy some from a thrift store.)
  • Thread or thin ribbon
  • Hammer
  • Nail

First, hammer the nail into the top edge of your mason jar lid, then remove it, creating a small hole. Then, cut out your sheet music or wrapping paper to fit the inner circle on the front of your mason jar. (Tip: I turned my sheet music upside down on top of my jar lid, then shaded the back with a crayon so I would know exactly where to cut.)

Trace lid with a crayon to cut paper to the right size.

Next, apply a thin layer of Mod Podge all over the front of your mason jar lid and adhere your sheet music or gift wrap to it. Allow it to dry for about 15 minutes, and then apply another layer of Mod Podge over the top.

Thread a thin strip of ribbon or a piece of thread through the nail hole (you’ll have to punch through the paper too if you’ve covered up your hole during the process), and hang. Easy, peasy!

I especially love this sheet music ornament. Visit the Graphics Fairy and search her site for “sheet music” for lots of free downloads that you can print out.

This project cost me nothing. I had everything on hand. This would be a great use for wrapping paper scraps that you plan on throwing away, or you could use leftover scrapbook paper, or even old gift bags. You can also check out my mason jar lid garland and mason jar lid gift tags!

Are you making any ornaments this year? Do you love crafting with mason jars and/or lids?
